Christmas Victuals

We love being different every year.

This year we decided to have TV dinners instead of making a big meal or going out for Chinese or our usual tradition of Pizza.

Everyone picked their own meal and we didn't skimp either, there is a Hungry Man or two in there.

For Dessert….Apple Pies.

Happy Holidays to all

Halloween Bliss!

Finally!  We have been bribing the kids the last few years. Our deal: the Parental unit does not have to buy any Halloween treats, costumes or take anyone to any parties and we give you a $15 iTunes card.  This is the first year they have taken us up on the offer.  So long sugar - you have been banished from the house for today.

Fall Choir Concert

The Middle One and the Eldest One were both in a Choir Concert. They both sang really well. The Middle One looks like he is angry when he sings. The Eldest One looks like she is concentrating on what she is doing. This time one of our YW leaders came to watch - Thanks Jay-Rey!

Columbine 5K

The middle one ran in the Columbine Classic 5K on 30 Sep 2011.

He didn't do so well time-wise but after the race, we learned he had stopped to help a friend who had a hurt knee and also had his shoe untied for the last mile or so.

He still is having fun and did well all things considered.

Light 'em UP!

When Richard & Carrie & Family came out to visit us last month, we had some neighbors that needed a little "lovin" so we pulled out 'ol Betsy and let 'em have it….kidding. Richard had heard we had airsoft guns so we shot them around the back yard a little. Enjoyed their kids too. We went to the park, watched Harry Potter and enjoyed having them at our house.

Peaking with Parents

My Mom&Dad came out to our house this year. One of the things we did was to go to the top of Pike's Peak with them. We drove the road to the top and here all of us are at all the glory of 14,108 feet. We had a donut and looked around. No one got short of breath or anything.

Wooooooh!

This is one of our favorite stories from The Stanley Hotel. The guy called Lord Dunraven was a real ladies man and he is said to haunt this room. People who stay in this room frequently have jewelry replaced around the room. This was part of our 20th Anniversary Trip. More to come.

Drove through Rocky Mountain National Park and saw some Moose.

Stayed in Winter Park and did some window shopping.

11 Year Old Campout

The youngest and I went to the 11 Year old scout campout this weekend. It was a blast. We learned how to properly use a knife, saw and axe, we learned how to find traces of animals, we learned about compasses and maps and best of all, we learned that we really like each other.

Aluminum Can Memories

On my way home from work today, I saw a man picking up cans along the side of the road.  I was instantly taken back to many, many, many, many years ago when I was a kid and it was summer-time.

I am walking along a lonely stretch of rural highway and it is hot and dry.  I have a burlap sack in my hands and my eyes are scanning through the weeds for aluminum cans.  In my pocket is a heavy magnet to test each can; if the can sticks to my magnet through my jeans, then I know it doesn't go into the sack and I throw it back down.  I have been doing this for - what seems to my kid mind - a very long time.  I am thirsty  - or maybe it is just an excuse to do something else for a few minutes.  My Dad looks up from his section of the side of the road and asks me what I need.  "A drink, I'm thirsty."  He looks a little perturbed and I can't blame him because this is probably the fourth drink I have had in the last 20 minutes or so.  Next, I plan to find a fence post and take care of a "minor irritation"; at least that's what my Dad calls it.  We are gathering aluminum cans because we can take them to a recycler and get money.  When I first started doing this, I thought of all the cool things I would buy with my money like a bike or a radio but now I just want to go home and sit in the cool house and relax.  We keep walking and bending down to pick up cans.  Cars zip past me sometimes whisking my hair and cooling me off a little.  My Mom is on the other side with my older sister and I think my bag is fuller and therefore heavier - bragging rights will come later when the recycler-man weighs our bags.

Thinking back on this, I don't know if we were collecting cans because we had to or because it brought some extra-needed money for things.
